In 1999, Philippine rock band Siakol released its third album, Pantasya ("Fantasy"). The new album finds the band approaching the level of the first, which was a fine first outing, and sounding far better than on the second. Pantasya doesn't have the immediate impact of the first album, and repeated listenings are required to better savor the music. However, it's worth the wait.
The album opens on the acoustic, "Hindi Mo Ba Alam" ("You Don't Know"), which features the plaintive vocals of lead singer Noel Palomo, accompanied only by acoustic guitar. The melody to "Hindi Mo Ba Alam" is exceptionally strong. Many songs here use an acoustic ambience, in contrast to the band's earlier albums, which emphasized raging electric guitar. The acoustic guitar is predominant on some songs or works in tandem with the electric guitar, as heard on "Muli Bang Makikita" ("Will I See You Again") and the rollicking "Malaya Ba?" ("Is It Free?"). There are no heavy metal or overt punk songs on Pantasya, though "Kasalukuyan" ("Currently") and "Makabagong Panahon" ("New Time") are punkish in spirit, working off a fast rhythm. "Pantasya" has a anthemic rock feel, "Inday" has the ambience of a traditional folk dance, and "Sisa" sounds nearly like a children's song in parts.
The band's musicianship has improved significantly since their 1996 debut album, and the music has lost none of its charm. The songwriting (all done by vocalist Noel Palomo) is substantially improved, and Palomo's vocals just get better and better with each album.

On Philippine rock band Siakol's ...Sa Pag-Ikot Ng Mundo (In the Rotation of the World), the music is gritty but also has melody. The band's sound is propelled by strong, reverb-edged rhythm guitar and also features searing guitar solos. The singing of vocalist Noel Palomo, who is also the group's songwriter, is heartfelt and gritty. Much of Siakol's sound is centered on the reverb-edged riffs and chord progressions purveyed by the guitarist, Miniong Cervantes, who often lays down a mighty path.
The band's music has an unpolished garage sound, giving it a stamp of authenticity. The opening song, "Habang Ang Lahat," begins on a heavy metal, Black Sabbath-styled path but then segues into a melodic, near pop-styled tune. Before long, though, the rough-edged guitar returns. "Sa Pag-Ikot Ng Mundo" (In the Rotation of the World) and "Yakap" (Hug) feature a spirited, flowing feel that is propelled by strong rhythm guitar. The rhythm guitar on "Sa Pag-Ikot Ng Mundo" also has a jingle-jangle ambience. The lumbering "Wag Mong Isipin 'Yon" (Don't Think) is far too long. The fine "Ayoko Na Sa 'Yo" (I Don't Like You Anymore) works off a hypnotic guitar riff, and the vocals achieve a strong anthemic stance. Because many songs on this album are centered on reverb-edged guitar work, the inclusion of more tender, acoustic-based songs would provide needed contrast. Stronger melodies throughout the album would also help.

In 1996, Philippine rock band Siakol released their debut album, Tayona Sa Paraiso ("Let's Go to Paradise"). Despite the somewhat crude instrumentation, Siakol's music exhibits charm and raw attractiveness. Vocalist Noel Palomo accounts for much of the appeal, as his singing is emotive and strong, and has more depth than many rock vocalists in the Philippines. It also helps that Palomo sings on-key. The band uses the basic rock lineup of guitar, drums, and bass. As noted earlier, the musicianship is a bit rudimentary, but charmingly so, reminiscent of such 1960s American garage bands as the 13th Floor Elevators and the Kingsmen. There is also a touch of the punk band the Sex Pistols in the Siakol's sound. The band displays a commendable degree of creativeness and diversity. The melodies are credited to Siakol, while vocalist Palomo writes all lyrics. The melodies are distinctive and memorable, and are a prime reason for the album's charm. The lyrics address topics pertinent to the Philippines, including courtship and various societal conditions, such as traffic and government corruption. Most of the songs are rock-based, including "Peksman" (slang for "I Swear") and "Salot" ("Pest"); two songs, "Biyaheng Impiyerno" ("Trip to Hell") and "Sistemang Bulok" ("System That Stinks"), have a fast, frenetic punk sound. Several songs feature only voice and acoustic guitar, including the plaintive "Lagim" ("Terror") and "Bakit Ba?" ("Why Is It?"). The album is cohesive and not just a slip-shod collection of songs, as what often occurs in the Philippines.
